  • This beautiful oaktree is perhaps one of the oldest trees in Norway. The state-owned and protected "Kurlandseika" is just over five meters in diameter. It is said that a monk planted the oak before the years of Reformation. This happened in the early 16th century. Many monks settled down on farms around eastern Norway in the period before and after the reformation, bringing with them a lot of knowledge about horticulture and planting. The tree was also in 1716 on the map of Swedish king Charles XII, which already meant that the tree was large enough to be marked on a map. The old king's road was also close by, which made the oak tree an attraction for passing people.
