  • This gate and entrance to the fortress at Carcassonne was built in the 1100s by the Visigoth people of southern France. To the right and left covered with grass is what used to be the moat. As for the castle wall visible here, it was built in 100 BC by Romans. The Visigoths added to it in the 1100s. You can distinguish between the Roman and Visigoth work from the difference in the brickwork. #Occitanie #history
