The view od the Ruined Castle and Mount Solitary
The evolution of the Landslide. Arthur Mellor, a mine worker, first noticed a crack in the cliff face below Cyclorama Point, on what is now Cliff Drive, Katoomba, in June 1929. Small landslides occurred from 27th January 1931 until the main landslide on the night of 29th January 1931. The landslide was generally believed to be the result of weakened mine tunnels underneath the cliff when the mine was abandoned and the props removed. Cliff Drive was constructed in 1937 and gave easier access to the Landslide Lookout.
