Our state-of-the-art Design and Technology Workshop is a hub of innovation and gives pupils the chance to use a range of professional equipment, including laser cutters, 3D printers, a milling machine and a wooden and metal lathe. This is great preparation for pupils interested in pursuing a career in engineering and technical design. We are one of a limited number of schools that offer the prestigious Arkwright Scholarships.

The state-of-the-art boathouse is located on the banks of the beautiful River Tees and offers fantastic training facilities and resources for water sports.

The Yurt is based in the woodland around the Senior School and is used for outdoor education, biology and eco-schools activities.

The well equipped library is perfect for quiet study and is regularly updated with new additions to suit everyone’s interests. The library supports our students’ progress and curriculum and also offers a vast range of reference, fiction and non-fiction books alongside hard copy and digital resources. Sixth Form students have their own dedicated library.

The Sixth Form Centre has two common rooms for students to meet during breaks and in some study periods, and two classrooms for Sixth Form subjects. There is a dedicated study area and library available to Sixth Form students in the Friarage building.

Classrooms in the private Sixth Form Centre are used for Psychology and Politics lessons and accommodate Sixth Form tutor groups.

The modern dining hall provides a superb venue for pupils to enjoy a delicious homemade lunch. There is a wide array of choice each day from hot meals to an extensive salad bar, pasta bar, baked potatoes, soup, fruit bar and desserts.

Our recently refurbished Science Labs support and enable the practical skills needed to develop excellent scientists. Practical work is of great importance in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and having a wide range of apparatus available is crucial in furthering pupil understanding of the subjects and building the essential skills and competencies required. Most importantly, however, are our passionate teachers, each of whom is a qualified subject specialist and who support our pupils' progress right through to their A Levels and university entries.

Our Textiles room is fitted with large fabric cutting tables, sewing machine stations, a computer area with sublimation printer and press, and a changing area for garment development. There is an excellent range of fabrics, materials and equipment within the room to enable pupils to undertake a wide range of surface decoration techniques from screen printing to batik. Pupils use this room for their practical, theory and experimental work.

Pupils are exposed to a broad range of art and design techniques and skills during their time at Yarm School. Our Attic is a creative space where pupils can explore their interests, refine their techniques and bring their artistic visions to life.

Information Technology is used within all subject areas and Computer Science is offered as a GCSE subject. The IT Suites can be booked by teachers for computer-based lessons. The School also provides a Google Chromebook for each pupil to use in school and at home.

The riverside classrooms accommodate English, Languages and the Learning Support Department. The classrooms are bright and spacious, enjoying fantastic views of the River Tees and surrounding countryside.

Dance is extremely popular with both boys and girls throughout the school. Dance is available as an activity for Senior and Sixth Form pupils, and private lessons are offered after school. The annual Dance Showcase is held on stage in the Auditorium and the event usually features 100-150 pupils on stage throughout the evening.

Yarm Town Centre is just a short walk from school. A recent winner of the Rising Star category in the Great British High Street Awards, it's a mixture of independent retailers , cafes and restaurants.
