Witherspoon Pulpit_...

Card

In 1968, interstate 65 displaced Witherspoon, and the church moved from 25th and Paris Avenue to its current building at 5136 N. Michigan Road. The structure was designed by Robert LaRue, a Black architect, Tuskegee Airman, and Witherspoon member. The church sits on a quiet cul-de-sac on 15 acres, safe from the threat of eminent domain.

"Witherspoon is a vibrant and welcoming community of faith steeped in the Black religious tradition, and yet open and affirming to the full diaspora of God’s Creation. For over a century, Witherspoon has been an oasis of hope for countless generations of faithful seekers in need of refuge and community, and we continue in this ministry of inclusivity and care even today. The art throughout the Witherpoon campus pays homage to our African ancestry and the brilliance of the Black experience today." -Rev. Dr. Winterbourne Harrison-Jones
