VISION SERVICES Over 200,000 Tennesseans are legally blind, with the number growing as people age. The STAR Center offers a broad variety of services for people with visual impairments, including: * Safe and effective travel. (Orientation and Mobility) * Optometry sessions for low vision and legal blindness. * Magnifiers and talking devices for reading. * Treatment of cortical visual impairment in infants. * Screen readers for computer and smartphone access. Applying for our Vision Services typically begins with an eye doctor’s referral to our agency. If you or a loved one are in need of our services, let us know and we will help.

Assistive Technology Assistive technology makes things possible for people with disabilities. We were founded for this purpose in 1988, and we continue the tradition to this day. We offer a variety of services, including but not limited to: * Information and tours for assistive technology. * Demonstrations of both low-tech and high-tech devices. * A reutilization and loan program for devices and equipment. * Adaptations for computers and smartphones. * Workplace accommodations and accessibility. Tours, device demonstrations, and reutilization services are free (donations are welcome). Prices and funding vary for other services.

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES Employment gives one dignity, independence, and purpose. We provide comprehensive services to help people with disabilities join or rejoin the workforce, including: * Determining a Career Path * Work Readiness Training * Job-seeking and Interview Skills * Connecting Clients to Employers * Supported Employment * Pre-Employment Transition Services Employment services are primarily available to recipients of Tennessee Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services. You can apply for VR services by contacting a local VR office.

Why STAR Home Care? Call: 731-554-5100 TRUST: All STAR Center home care aides go through seven background checks before being hired. They also must demonstrate experience and a deeply caring nature. TRAINING: Our home care aides receive extensive training, including first aid and CPR. We have staff who are trained and experienced in working with certain conditions, including Alzheimer's and Dementia. EXPERIENCE: We have provided home care to people with some of the most severe disabilities since 1997. Our care aides have worked for us an average of 3.8 years, with some over 17 years. CHOICE: We will find the best caregiver based on the skills and personality you need. If you wish to change for any reason, we will help you choose another caregiver. FLEXIBILITY: As a non-profit, our clients come first. We tailor our schedules to your needs. Morning, evening, or both.

SPEECH THERAPY Communication with others is the key to personal success and realizing one’s own potential. The STAR Center has a speech-language pathologist on staff to help people communicate, including: * Helping children with speech delays. * Correcting articulation problems (e.g. “wabbit”) * Reduction of stuttering, mumbling and other fluency problems. * Speech devices, including eye gaze technologies. * Safety while eating or swallowing. Insurance may cover the cost of some, most, or all of these services. We accept insurance from all available providers, including TennCare Select, BlueCross BlueShield, and United Healthcare.
