Images and text labels
With Kuula you can edit and enhance your photos with elements called Addons. There are three kinds of addons: images, text and hotspots. This article covers images and text, while hotspots are discussed in a separate one.
Here's a live demo tour showing some examples of this feature:
You can add elements to your post when uploading a new photo or by editing any of the existing ones. To edit an existing post click on the edit (pen) icon in the toolbar located at the top-right (desktop) or bottom (mobile) of the screen or by clicking the Edit button next to a post thumbnail on your profile.
The addon buttons are located in the panel that shows up when you enter the editor.
Images
The first type of Addon is an image you can place anywhere in your photo. To add one, click on the Image button and a dialog will appear where you can choose an image:
Custom images
By default you can choose from a few built-in assets, but you can also upload your own images, by switching to the Your assets tab:
This window will allow you to upload new assets as well as change the view, search in your assets, create folders and rename or delete the assets.
Once you find the image you want to use, simply click on it to select it.
Adjusting size, position and rotation
Once added, you can adjust the position of the image by dragging it around the screen. Using the Width & Height, Opacity and Rotation sliders on the right side panel you can adjust the way the image is displayed.
The position section allows to select several ways the element will be positioned in the panorama:
- 2D forces flat rendering, which prevents the hotspot from getting distorted when it's close to the edge of the screen. The hotspot will always face the camera.
- Floor will position the hotspot on a virtual "floor" instead of around on the sphere. This is a great feature to use when building tours of real estate, since hotspots laid out on a floor feel more intuitive.
- Wall is similar to the option above, this option will position the hotspot on a virtual "wall" around the camera. This option can be useful for precise positioning of elements that blend with the environment in the picture, especially when used with advanced rotation.
- Scale on zoom will lock scaling of the image when you zoom in and out in the photo. This will prevent it from getting too big or too small as you zoom the panorama.
The position settings are available for all types of addons: images, text and hotspots.
Text
With the text addon, you can simply add a piece of text overlayed anywhere in your post. It can be used to describe elements in the photo, add comments and put labels on things.
Click on the green Text button in the editor to add a text label. The label will show up in your photo and the editor will switch to the text editing mode.
Google Fonts
In the text editor you can change the font using the T button. There are over 800 Google Fonts to choose from, so you have almost infinite creative possibilities!
The best way to find your favorite font is to browse the Google Fonts website first, find the font you like and then choose them from the list in the editor.
Size, color, alignment
You can also change the color of the text using A, the background, using paint bucket or toggle bold with B and change the font size and text alignment (left, center or right)
If you want to adjust the position of the text in the photo, simply drag the text around.
Branding
In the Settings section at the bottom of the editing tools panel, you will find a checkbox where you can select if the image "Contains branding":
This is optional and you do not need to use this function for any type of images or text, but it can come handy if you want to publish the tour on MLS.
Tours on MLS cannot contain any branding, realtor or agent information. You can mark addons that contain such information by selecting the check box. This way they will not appear in links that are exported as MLS links.
Saving your work
When you feel satisfied with all the addons and edits, hit the green SAVE button in the top-right to save your changes.
If you ever need to change any of the addons, just jump back into the editor, do the changes and hit SAVE again.
Happy editing!
