A concrete peer structure and pumping station was built to drain the marshes and make them fit for agriculture. Now the peer protrudes into the sea. Looking north you can see how the recent storms have scoured 10ms out of the shoreline. Along the shore you can see the detritus from the storm – the carcasses of huge bags of ballast which were placed to slow down the coastal erosion, but have now been swept away.
