Turtle Cove in the John Day River Basin in Central Oregon....
Turtle Cove in the John Day River Basin in Central Oregon. The blue-green color is attributed to a mineral called celadonite, which formed when water moved through volcanic ash 30 million years ago. For tens of millions of years volcanoes spewed out material that covered this part of Oregon. If you move around the picture you can see how the successive layers of this material caused the banding appearance of the hills.
