A magneto telephone has a hand-cranked magnet that generates a varying current, signaling to ring the bells of other telephones on the same party line and to alert an operator of an incoming call. This magneto telephone belonged to George C. Roeding Jr., with which he used to make many important calls to the superintendent of the company, the only line this phone was connected to.

The California Nursery Company was extremely successful in selling figs. George C. Roeding Jr. became so famous for his figs, that he was known as the Fig Man.
