Martha Oladesu Love and Unity Hairdresser Martha settled in Bankstown 8 years ago. Back in Ghana she also ran a hairdressing salon. “The best thing to do when I arrived was to set up a hairdresser here. When I started I was the first African hairdresser in Bankstown and now there is lots of competition.” Coming to Bankstown, Martha found herself in a place with very few problems compared to Ghana. She quickly made a lot of friends which has made her feel part of the community here. “No problems here…a lot of my people around so I feel great” Over eight years Martha has witnessed a transformation in Bankstown. “There were not so many people when I arrived, now a lot of people are coming to rent and getting so busy. It was a less beautiful place, now it is getting better and becoming more like a city.” Martha and her daughter work in the hair dressing salon which is full of beautiful coloured fabrics and feels like a restful place to spend time. “I like to talk to people and my customers, it makes me feel happy to make others happy. I advise them, they feel happy and it makes me smile.”
