The small incorporated town of Granite, located in a remote area in the Elkhorn Mountains in Northeast Oregon. It can be accessed from the Elkhorn Scenic Byway. . First established by miners in 1862 during the gold mining era. It had a population of 448 in 1870, which eventually dropped to 2 in 1960 after the gold mines were closed. Today it has grown to about 40.
