  • Scattered among the other conifers in the Elkhorn Mountains in Northeast Oregon are the Tamarack trees. They are deciduous conifers. In October the chlorophyll in their needles breaks down and they turn from green to brilliant gold. In November they fall off and grow back in the spring.
