Nardò - The Immaculate Guglia. In the middle of Piazza Salandra, in Nardò city, Salento district, we found the Immaculate Guglia. It was built in 1769 by the will of the people, following the earthquake that shook the whole of Salento in 1763. This will be recorded in the top engraving on the last frame. The material used is carparo, a local yellowish stone, has a pyramidal base and is 19 meters high. The column is subdivided into five levels, each level divided by festoons, plumes, floral elements, friezes and cusps, culminating in the globe holding the Madonna. In the first order are represented 4 statues: San Giuseppe, San Giovanni, San Domenico and Sant'Anna. Wikipedia source.
