    At the time the Rev. Millar died, an annual fee had to be paid the graveyard managers to ensure the on-going exclusive use of a grave. James Millar was obviously a belt-and-braces sort of man when it came to planning for the future. He left a bursary to one Edinburgh divinity student who was to pay the annual fee for his grave and clean his gravestone. However, just in case the student was too busy with studies or maybe over fond of spending time in taverns, James arranged for the Treasurer of the Edinburgh Orphan Hospital to step in pay the fee.
