Perm. Old Yegoshikha cemetery. The Yegoshikha cemetery is the oldest surviving necropolis in Perm. The vast territory of 50 hectares is historically divided into 6 confessional areas: the Old and New Orthodox cemeteries, the Lutheran cemetery, the Catholic cemetery, the Jewish cemetery, the Muslim cemetery. The Egoshikha cemetery was founded in 1783 by the Governor-General of Perm and Tobolsk E.P. Kashkin, - as they say, in pursuance of the 1772 decrees of Catherine II and the Governing Senate on the ban on burying within the city. The place for the new cemetery was chosen on the then eastern outskirts, between the Yegoshikha river and its tributary, which also had some kind of Russian-Finno-Ugric folk name, but quickly lost it, being replaced by the mythological toponym Styx!
